Toyota has updated the complete IMV line-up for 2012. The Japanese automaker has just now unveiled the 2012 Toyota Innova  at the on-going Indonesia Motor Show. The Innova now looks slightly upmarket with the Camry inspired front. On the outside the headlights, grille, bumper, alloy wheels and tail lights are all new. While on the inside, Toyota has give the Innova a new center console, dual glove box and a smaller steering wheel. The wood garnish has vanished and there is not much to differentiate the new Innova from the old one.
Toyota will launch the Innova facelift in India early next year. The changes will be purely cosmetic and there will no be no alterations to either of the powertrains on offer. The Innova will continue to be powered by the same 2.5-liter D4-D diesel engine and 2.0-liter VVT-i petrol engine. Toyota will not offer automatic transmission on the updated Innova and the car will continue to be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Expect a price hike to the tune of Rs. 30,000/- on the new model.
Launching their made for India product, the Toyota Etios  wasn’t a small task for Toyota Kirloskar Motors that they are planning on revamping the entire look of their favorite people mover, the Toyota Innova. Well, this change would only be in effect in 2012. Unfortunately the car would still be built on the same IMV platform on which the earlier Toyota Innova was based on. Toyota Kirloskar Motors is one company which regularly conducts customer workshops and clinics to ask them about their thoughts on the company’s new designs. For the Toyota Innova, almost all of the customers reported that they were very happy with the performance and looks of the car. So it is now decided by the company that they wouldn’t alter with the looks of the car majorly and anyways it is a major challenge to improve upon an already successful product.
It is rumored that the next generation Toyota Innova would have certain body panels which would be re skinned and also major styling tweaks. In all probability it would sport an aggressive front end look. Also most of the customers said that the new car shouldn’t be elongated more since driving it in the city proves to be a chore. Toyota engineers are looking at ways to improve the third row seating space without increasing the length of the car. This new car would also sport a more powerful engine alongside an automatic option as well. Moreover, the company is also planning to make a 5 seater MPV based on the now famous Toyota Etios platform. This is to plug in the gap between the Etios Q sedan and the Toyota Corolla. India’s largest car manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki India Limited are also planning on a 5 seater luxury MPV which would be code named R3 and would be launched at around 2012. Future variants of the same platform would however depend on the success of the Toyota Etios Q and the Etios Liva. The 2012 Toyota Innova  would also be highly re-engineered for it to have a more flexible seating arrangement and also to have different interiors than the more up market Toyota Fortuner suv.
If you’d been waiting for the next-generation Toyota Innova with breathless anticipation, your struggle is now over. The 2012 Toyota Innova was just unveiled at the 2011 Bangkok Auto Show, and it is simply a facelift.
As reported by Malaysian site PaulTan, the facelifted 2012 Innova is Toyota’s fourth new model unveiled this year, as per our last count. With this, Toyota’s trio of Thailand-built vehicles, the Fortuner, Hilux and Innova, all get a minor facelift after five years in the market.
Mechanically, we suspect nothing has changed. The same 2.7-litre 4-cylinder engine is expected to be offered in Saudi Arabia, UAE and other Middle East markets, where the Innova has grabbed a niche among taxi firms and large families for its ability to carry 8 passengers on the cheap. Features such as navigation and diesel engines are reserved for the East-Asian home market.
