After the Camaro Z28 was all but confirmed as fact rather then rumor (despite most folks already knowing it was on the way) by GM’s Karl Stracke, it looks like the this modern rendition of the Z28 is going to be a real stormer.

Word has it that it will use a 6.2L supercharged V8 packing an explosive 550+bhp, giving it enough horses to run with the likes of the Ford Mustang GT500, and at the same time possibly making buyers for the Ford take an extra moment to consider their purchase decision.

The Camaro Z28 is taking shape rapidly as the months pass, with an apparent scheduled release date of early 2011, we believe the car must be in its final stages of tweaking before oiling up the production line to starting putting the pieces together of one of the most exciting muscle cars we have seen for a little while.

2012 Chevrolet Cruze Hatchback is a next generation car from Chevrolet Cruze. With the introduction of the new Chevrolet Cruze hatchback, customers have an alternative body style to the traditional sedan and Chevrolet has raised the bar again with a vehicle that brings new levels of value against some of the more established competition. The Chevrolet Cruze is a car particularly well suited to European driver tastes, a fact borne out by sales success across many of markets. The new Chevrolet Cruze 5-door hatchback will go on sale across Europe mid 2011.

Both the European and American-spec Cruze sedans drive well for their segment, and Chevrolet says the hatchback will deliver similar dynamics, which we take to mean it will use an identical chassis setup. If powertrain options carry over (and they probably will), Euro-types will be able to choose from 1.6- and 1.8-liter gasoline engines and a 2.0-liter diesel.
The new body style looks sharper and sportier, with short overhangs. In profile, the sloped roofline, spoiler, and steep rear glass create a look akin to that of the Subaru Impreza. There are even LED front accent lights, but whether they will make the leap from this show car to production is unknown. With its attractive sweeping coupe roofline and short overhangs at both the front and rear, the new Chevrolet Cruze hatchback has the same dynamic ‘stance’ as the sedan and will be instantly recognizable. It will benefit too from the same taut body ‘feel’ on the road, being built using the new body-frame integral system (BFI) which is complemented by the final tuning to chassis components. The BFI system results in high levels of stability and solidity.

Cargo capacity for the Chevrolet Cruze hatchback is close to 400 liters and will feature 60/40 split rear seating. Chevrolet’s participation in the World Touring Car Championship with the Chevrolet Cruze is also currently paying great dividends. With four races left in the season, it currently leads both the drivers’ and team championships while also showcasing the dynamic qualities of the car to great effect.
Last Fall, we spent some quality time debunking the myth that American consumers don't buy hatchbacks. The Europeans, however, need no such convincing, as five-doors and wagons rule the roost in many a segment overseas. Chevrolet understands this, which is why it has rolled out the Cruze hatchback in Geneva. With General Motors estimating that 65 percent of all compact sales in Europe are of the hatchback variety, this model is arguably more important than the sedan in much of the world.

Slated to go on sale in the middle of this year, the Cruze's 60/40 split rear seat and around 14 cubic feet of cargo space should add some utility to Chevy's very mature compact offering. Check it out in the gallery below and then hit the jump for GM's official presser.
Chevrolet has plenty to celebrate at Geneva 2011

2011-03-01

* Full production version of Cruze hatchback
* New Aveo shows how good small sedans can look
* Camaro coupe and convertible coming to Europe
* Record figures in 2010
* Centenary year 2011

Whether it's having three model debuts, record European market share figures or a Centenary to celebrate, there will be plenty of activity on the Chevrolet stand (Hall 1) in Geneva between March 3 and 13.

Proof that the amount of news the company had in Paris in September, last year was not a one off, visitors to Chevrolet will again be greeted by an array of new product and good news stories, as its momentum in Europe continues to pick up pace.

Top of the bill is the world premiere for the production version of the sporty Cruze hatchback as well as the European debuts for the handsome new Aveo sedan and the iconic Camaro convertible. Chevrolet's multiple award-winning electric vehicle with extended range capability, the Volt, will not only be on display this time. The North American Car of the Year will also be available for short test drives as part of Chevrolet's activities at the show's green pavilion (Pavillon Vert) during press and public days.

Backing up all the new cars on the stand, Chevrolet recently announced its best market share ever in Europe in 2010, while this year the company embarks on an ambitious program of activity to mark 100 years since the first Chevrolet went into production.

Cruze hatchback

The full production version of the new Cruze hatchback is shown for the first time at Geneva. The launch is perfect timing for Chevrolet, with the manufacturer celebrating winning the World Touring Car Championship for the first time with the Cruze four door in December.

The introduction of a new hatchback version gives customers an alternative body style to the award-winning sedan and is further evidence of Chevrolet's intention to bring value for money to all mainstream segments in Europe. The compact segment in Europe represents a quarter of the total market and hatchbacks play a critical role, representing around 65% of all compact segment sales.

With its attractive sweeping coupe roofline and short overhangs at both the front and rear, the new Cruze hatchback has the same dynamic 'stance' as the sedan and will be instantly recognizable. The hatchback uses the same body-frame integral system (BFI) to ensure taut ride and handling, well suited to European tastes. It has already convinced Chevrolet customers around the world , with the Cruze notchback exceeding forecasts in 2010 to become the brand's best-selling passenger car.

Cargo capacity for the Cruze hatchback is close to 400 liters and it will feature 60/40 split rear seating. On sale is scheduled for mid 2011.

Aveo sedan

Widening the appeal of its new Aveo, Chevrolet's handsome new sedan version of the small car makes its European debut in Geneva.

From the front, the notchback and hatchback share the same powerful look with exposed twin-headlamps, dual port grille and compact taut body panels. The rising shoulder line of the sedan is particularly striking, giving the new four-door a premium profile, while the mildly flared wheel arches house wheels up to 17 inches, accentuating the upscale look of the small sedan.

Chevrolet expects the more mature design of the notchback to appeal to a different type of customer to the hatchback, in particular families. The sedan's practical credentials are evident in the levels of space it provides for a small car. With a 4,389 mm length and 1,735 mm width, the new Aveo is both longer and wider than the current model, giving it a spacious interior. Cargo volume is also among best in class at a generous 502 liters.

The new Aveo's interior is also characterized by modern design such as the motorcycle-inspired instrument binnacle with an analogue tachometer combined with a digital speedo and warning lights.

A comprehensive range of gasoline and diesel engines will be available, the gasoline options including two 1.2 liter versions (at 70 hp and at 86 hp), a 1.4 liter unit (100 hp) and a 1.6 liter (115 hp). For the first time, Aveo will be offered with two versions of a 1.3 liter diesel engine (at 75 hp and at 95 hp) featuring Start/Stop technology. All engines incorporate the latest technologies such as variable valve timing, double continuous variable cam phasing and common rail fuel injection for the diesels.

Chevrolet's first 6-speed automatic transmission on a small car will feature on the Aveo 1.4 and 1.6 as an option in most markets; manual transmissions are of 5 or 6 speed depending on engine choice.

The Aveo sedan and hatchback will on sale across Europe in the summer.

Camaro coupe and convertible

The Camaro coupe and convertible are sure to get plenty of attention at Geneva. Available in V8 form when it goes on sale at selected Chevrolets dealers in September, Camaro's low-slung stance and front to rear body proportions remain true to the original concept, a design that acknowledges its legendary past without appearing retro.

Under the hood, Camaro's 432 hp, 6.2-liter V8 generates 569 Nm of torque to give the new Camaro the muscle to match its looks. With the six-speed automatic transmission, it delivers 405 hp/556 Nm and includes GM's fuel-saving Active Fuel Management system, enabling it to cruise on only four cylinders during light load conditions.

Camaro's interior is characterized by the perfect balance between heritage and modernity, while detailing, such as the large, chrome-trimmed controls, low-gloss surfaces and premium fabric.

Camaro's chassis features electronic stability control (GM's StabiliTrak system) and traction control as standard equipment while an adjustable "Sport" mode is fitted for performance driving, such as on track days. A Launch Control feature will ensure quick and safe take-offs with large, ventilated disks (355/365 mm front/rear), complete with four-piston aluminum Brembo calipers for impressive braking performance.

A comprehensive range of safety features includes dual-stage front airbags, front seat- mounted thorax side airbags and head curtain airbags for front and rear occupants.

The coupe's convertible sibling was designed from the outset to be built in both coupe and convertible form – features the latest power-folding top which takes only 20 seconds to retract. Built in partnership with the same manufacturer as the Corvette convertible, it folds into a simple "Z" pattern and latches with a single, convenient handle located at the center of the windshield header. It is made of thick, durable canvas and features acoustical headliner material that provides a quiet ride when the top is up. It also incorporates a glass rear window and rear window defogger.

Chevrolet's engineers are keen to point out that the convertible is no boulevard cruiser but can match the coupé for ride and handling, thanks to four strategic reinforcements which enhance the already stiff body structure; these include a tower-to-tower brace under the hood, transmission support reinforcement brace, underbody tunnel brace and front and rear underbody "V" braces.

2010: a year of record sales

Winning the WTCC wasn't the only cause for celebration at Chevrolet in 2010. The year culminated in total European sales of 477,194 vehicles, an improvement of 12.0 percent over 2009 and the second best result ever for Chevrolet in Europe.

Chevrolet's market share in Europe rose to an all-time high of 2.5 percent. The year ended with all-time market share records for the fourth quarter of 2.7 percent and for December of 3.0 percent. Over the year as a whole, market share improved in a total of 21 countries in Europe.

2011: Centenary year

The strong results set the scene perfectly for 2011, Chevrolet's centenary year. It was in November 1911 that renowned Swiss born racing driver and engineer Louis Chevrolet, in collaboration with American businessman William Crapo Durant, founded the Chevrolet Motor Company in Flint, Michigan, with the first Chevrolet car being the luxurious six cylinder Classic Six which went into production soon after. To mark the historic occasion, the company is planning an ambitious program of activity. Watch out for more news throughout the year.

The V6 SE will cost $26,400, which is consistent with 2011 pricing. In the market for the top-shelf XLE? Have at least $24,725 ready for the four-cylinder model, and $29,845 if you prefer the V6. If you're leaning towards the 2012 Toyota Camry Hybrid, you'll be saving $1,150 over the 2011 Camry LE. The 2012 Camry Hybrid LE starts at $25,900, while the Camry Hybrid XLE starts at $27,400, an $800 deduction compared to the 2011 unit.
Toyota Announces Pricing for All-New 2012 Camry and Camry Hybrid

• 2012 Camry Has More Features and All Popular Models are Priced Lower or the Same as 2011s
• Class-Leading Driving Dynamics, Safety Features and MPG
• Camry Begins Arriving at Dealerships in October

TORRANCE, Calif., August 23, 2011 - - Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A., Inc. today announced manufacturer's suggested retail prices (MSRP) for the all-new, seventh-generation Camry, America's best-selling car for nine years running and 13 of the past 14 years. The Camry remains an excellent value as all popular models receive either a price decrease or remain flat in comparison to last generation Camry models. The 2012 Camry and Camry Hybrid debut a bold, sophisticated new design with a more spacious interior, class-leading safety features, improved driving dynamics and an even quieter ride than before.

"Despite all of the enhancements to the all-new Camry, prices for all popular models have been reduced with dramatic repositioning on SE, XLE and Hybrid models, representing the best value in the segment," says Bob Carter, Toyota Group Vice President and General Manager. For $545 more, the Camry LE model adds to this package a long list of additional features starting with the all-new Display Audio system, which features a 6.1-inch touch screen that provides vehicle information and offers phone book access and music streaming via Bluetooth wireless technology. The LE model also includes remote keyless entry, auto on/off headlamps, side rocker panels with chrome inserts, steering wheel with audio and Bluetooth controls, and variable intermittent wipers. The Camry LE will carry a base MSRP of $22,500, a decrease of $200 or 0.9 percent compared to the 2011 model.

Camry XLEs equipped with the V6 engine will come standard with Display Audio with Navigation and Entune, along with leather-trimmed seats with heated driver and front passenger seats, back up camera, and smart key. The MSRP for XLE V6 models will be $29,845, which is the same price as the 2011 model.

Camry Hybrid Offers More Power and Class-Leading MPG
The Camry Hybrid model is also reinvented for 2012, utilizing a highly revised Hybrid Synergy Drive powertrain that includes a new 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, which produces a combined 200 horsepower and offers better MPG, all while featuring a significantly lower MSRP than its predecessor.

The Camry Hybrid LE not only delivers the best MPG of any mid-size sedan, achieving manufacturer-estimated 43 city/39 mpg hwy/41mpg combined, but it will also carry a MSRP of $25,900, an impressive decrease of $1,150 compared to the 2011 model. The premium Camry Hybrid XLE model features a MSRP of $27,400, a decrease of $800 compared to the previous model with upgrade package.

The new Camry models with four-cylinder and V6 engines will begin reaching Toyota dealers in October; Camry Hybrid models will arrive in November. The MSRPs for the 2012 Camry do not include the delivery, processing and handling (DPH) fee. The DPH for the Camry is $760. The DPH fee for vehicles distributed by Southeast Toyota (SET) and Gulf States Toyota (GST) may vary.
The 2012 Toyota Camry is offered in four trimlines (L, LE, XLE, SE) while the 2012 Camry Hybrid is available in just the LE and XLE forms and throughout much of the lineup, 2012 Camry buyers will pay less than those who opted for the 2011 models.

2012 Toyota Camry L
The 2012 Toyota Camry L serves as the base model and unlike the majority of the 2012 Camry trimlines, this base model sees an increase in MSRP compared to the 2011 models. The current Camry base with a 4-cylinder engine and automatic transmission starts at $21,245 while the 2012 Camry L carries a price of $21,955 – an increase of $710. However, for that additional cost 2012 buyers get a wide variety of new features including projection headlights and all sorts of power accessories inside.

2012 Toyota Camry LE
The next step up is the 2012 Toyota Camry LE, which carries a price of $22,500 and with this model, 2012 buyers will begin to see savings over the 2011 models, as the current Camry LE starts $200 more at $22,700. In addition to costing less than the current LE models, the 2012 Camry LE will come with the impressive Display Audio system which includes a 6.1 inch touch screen and some other convenience items like remote keyless entry and automatic headlamps. Both this model and the 2012 Camry L are powered exclusively by Toyota’s 2.5L 4-cylinder engine, sending out 178 horsepower and 170lb-ft of torque while achieving 25 miles per gallon around town and 35 on the open road.

The LE level is where the 2012 Toyota Camry Hybrid comes into play, with this fuel sipping sedan offering a starting price of $25,900 - $1,150 cheaper than the 2011 Camry Hybrid. The 2012 models will feature a new 2.5L 4-cylinder engine mated to Toyota’s hybrid drive system to offer 200 horsepower while also achieving 43mpg around town and 39mpg on the open road.

2012 Toyota Camry SE
Next, we have the 2012 Toyota Camry SE with a price tag of only $23,000 (with the 4-cylinder engine) – the model that Toyota claims is the “Camry with attitude”. This is achieved by adding a uniquely aggressive front fascia, 17” aluminum wheels, sport tuned suspension and steering, chrome exhaust tips, leather wrapped interior items including a steering wheel with paddle shifters and sport seats – all for just $500 more than the 2012 Camry LE. Compared to the 2011 Camry, the 2012 SE costs $965 less when equipped with the 2.5L 4-cylinder even though it comes with more amenities. If you want the 3.5L V6 engine that offers 268hp and 248lb-ft of torque, the 2012 Camry SE will start at $26,640 – the same price as the 2011 Camry SE V6 – although the V6 engine comes with unique 18” alloy wheels and the ne Entune audio system.

2012 Toyota Camry XLE
The top of the line for the traditionally powered (non-hybrid) 2012 Toyota Camry models is the XLE, which starts at $24,725 when powered by the 2.5L 4-cylinder mill. This is an impressive $2,000 decrease compared to the lesser-equipped 2011 Camry XLE models and even though it costs less, the 2012 model includes goodies like the Display Audio system with Entune and Navigation, as well as leather appointments throughout the interior. The 268hp 2012 Toyota Camry XLE V6 starts at $29,845 –the same as the 2011 models even though it includes the new features inside and out.

The 2012 Toyota Camry Hybrid XLE packs the same luxury features as the non-hybrid models but it adds the 200hp hybrid drivetrain that offers a combined 41mpg – and it costs $800 less than the 2011 Camry Hybrid models equipped with the upgrade package (Hybrid XLE was not offered in 2011).

The Toyota Camry has been the bestselling car in America 13 of the last 14 years and with new features, a new look and new, lower prices – Toyota has seemingly turned up the heat on the American automakers with the 2012 Camry lineup.

It all adds up to a sports car that looks like a good vehicle performance. It is. The Mazda RX-8 is not a pretender – this is the real deal. Not surprisingly, the Mazda RX-8 won the “Engine of the Year” twice and Coupe Car of the Year Award for two consecutive years.
It all adds up to the sports car the Which feels like a proper vehicle performance. And it is. The Mazda RX-8 is not a Pretender – If this is the real deal. No wonder then That the Mazda RX-8 has won “Engine of the Year ‘twice and What’s Coupe Car of the Year award two years running.
I have test driven quite a few different cars over the years, as it has become a fun weekend activity. It is nice to see how different companies tackle the same problem - How do we get the average consumer to part with lots of money for one of our cars? The thought process that lead up to my test drive of the RX-8 was simply "Is there a car that blends my 2007 Nissan Altima with my 1998 Porsche Boxster?" It has to seat 4, handle really well, and make the driver enjoy driving it. It took about a day to put a list of cars together, and the RX-8 was the first one to look at. It was the best of the bunch, too. I test drove every version of the RX-8 that was available to me. The R3, the Grand Touring with automatic, the Grand Touring with manual, and finally the Sport with manual. I eventually chose the Sport with Manual, because I wanted the more comfortable seats that it provides over the R3, but doesn't have headroom stolen away due to the sunroof in the Grand Touring. If I could piece the three cars together, I would take the rims, suspension and seat color scheme of the R3, combine it with the leather seats, Stability and Traction Control from the Grand Touring, and put it all in the Sport. Plus, it has to be a manual transmission. Driving the car is where the car stands out. If you live in an area with nothing but straight roads, you really shouldn't even bother considering this car. You need to live someplace with curves. The more curves, the better. If you have mountain curves, canyons, and passes, even better. I live in Colorado, so I have an unfair abundance of these. I feel sorry for you people who are stuck in Florida, as I stole your share of the curvy roads. I'm not sorry about this, however. What can the car use more of? Fuel Economy is #1 on that list. I've been averaging between 16 and 19 in the first 3k miles I have driven mine. 2 inches more rear legroom would also be a nice addition. A trailer hitch option here in the US would suit my needs too. Why can the UK have a hitch, but not the US? More hp isn't really needed in this light weight car, but I wouldn't say no. Anywhere between 275 and 350 would drive everyone crazy about this car. But like I said, it's not really needed. I don't feel bad about trading in my Boxster and Altima for the RX-8, with the sole exception of the lost fuel economy. It really is a great blend of the two cars. It puts a smile on my face when I take it for a fun drive in the mountains that doesn't go away for hours. Also, it is very light on it's feet in comparison to the Boxster's heavier, very well planted feel. Sort of like comparing a heavyweight boxer vs a ballerina. BC.
Since its launch, the Mazda RX8 has been the subject of scrutiny amateurs. There is a high level of attention only because of the excellent driving dynamics of the car but, in part to the first reports on the performance of weaker than expected. To be more precise: power to the wheel position on the chassis dynamometer offers a variety of leading to much lower values than expected 17% ~ 20% transmission of parasitic losses. And a quarter mile race from anywhere between 0.5 and 1.5 seconds of those produced by the magazine on pre-production vehicles suspected.

Under the rated RX8: marketing material original Mazda North America (NAO) has announced the RX8 manual transmission 6-speed 247hp @ 8500 rpm. Assuming that the loss of parasite transmission between 17% -20% for common-modern rear wheel drive vehicles, RX8 stock should measure between 205 ~ 197 rear wheel horsepower (rwhp)-depending on altitude, barometric pressure, the temperature, and correction factors applied. Instead, the chassis dyno results show stock RX8 works ranging from mid-height ~ 160 to ~ 185rwhp. Such readings would represent a loss of parasite transmission over 25%. In saying this, it is unacceptable to test this level of loss by the chain of “sports car” with a carbon fiber driveshaft, among other things, it is not enough.

To further doubts about the genesis of the power output of new real, many owners are able to reproduce mid-low 14 passes in the quarter-mile second as is well known automotive magazines published by States USA. Low speed trap another clue to the apparent lack of power.

Shortly thereafter, several discussions on online forums and discussion boards into a keen interest in the heated debates on what caused the poor “performance in a straight line.” Many owners of old and IATA to recall previous “evil” in Mazda history, when the manufacturer admits overestimate horsepower figures were redesigned Mazda IATA.

After some months, came forward and explained that the NAO has distorted the output power of Genesis. The revised amount is now 238hp @ 8500 rpm, but according to the NAO, this amendment does not change the results previously obtained performance monitoring.

Speculation on the reasons for the sudden loss of output power are numerous. However, there are currently two schools of thought:

* The first supports the idea that the RX-8 engine control unit (ECU), in collaboration with a number of “nanny” features such as ABS and TCS-not-allowed to obtain a accurate reading of the dynamometer. For simplicity, when the car is running on a chassis dynamometer, the drive wheels are turning. The RX-8 ECU drive an abnormal situation detection and delay the schedule and implement other security measures to keep either the “pilot” or the “engine” or both damage-cons (read: state sideslip or a car passes the road.)
* The second believes that the NAO is forced to rethink the engine control software that runs even before the first batch of the RX-8 to reach the U.S. coast, because of federal regulations on emissions that are pending. I read one in particular, the catalytic converter that requires a lifetime of ~ 100,000 miles. The number one enemy of catalytic converters on vehicles in the heat (and heat is the number one attribute of the exhaust of the rotary engine is.)

No offers two options for those who have ordered advance RX-8, or did not buy the end of September 2003:

* They buy the car, no questions asked.
* They offer free scheduled maintenance for the duration of the warranty, as well as 500 “gift card” dollar for those who choose to keep the car.
